Evaluation

For the duration of this project I developed my skills as a professional photographer even further. I have extensively researched architecture, in particular space and design. I have examined various photographers including Lloyd Duckett, Gerry O’Leary, Simon Kennedy and Andrew Hatfield. I am currently writing my dissertation which is about the use of abandoned cinemas and their use today. Extensive research into different cities and vastly improved my knowledge and understanding of how urban space has developed and how we as human’s specifically view design and space.

I have demonstrated the use of cognitive and intellectual skills within my folder. I have had many conversations with building caretakers, business owners and developers to get permission to shoot on their premises. I have communicated my idea and concept to a wide range of people relevant to architectural photography. Whilst on a photography job I have been told I have ‘an aura of professionalism’. I have problem solved by adapting my work and creating alternative solutions.

I have demonstrated my professional and practical skills throughout my work. This is shown from my initial approach to get in contact with someone to arrange a shoot all the way through to sending the final image. I have been active on Twitter and networked to build contacts. I have submitted my work to various organisations and have had my images published by BBC, Telegraph & Argus, Global Radio and The Irish Post.

My key transferable skills can be seen in my survey and the questions around my subject matter. The answers people have given me on the survey have directed me towards producing my final images. I have visited various locations throughout the UK and even visited Europe to explore different perspectives for my project. For my dissertation I have done over 16 case study visits.

Volcano

The aim of this shoot was to capture the unique building on top of a volcano on the island. The building was a tourist centre and restaurant with stunning panoramic views of the mountains with its floor to ceiling windows. There was an area in the centre of the restaurant where you could go watch chicken get cooked on a tray purely from the heat below of the volcano. I also captured images of demonstrations of geezers. These images will be used for advertising and promotional purposes online and in a brochure

Rancho Texas Shoot

Although there was is very little architectural detail in the shots, the purpose for producing these wildlife photographs in Rancho Texas, Lanzarote was for promotional and advertising purposes for the brochure. My images are going to be used to advertise the property, location and things to do locally in the area for tourists.

I kept my camera on me at all times as did my camera bag. As this was a tourist attraction, I made sure I respected other tourists and did my best not to capture them in my images. However, this wasn’t always possible when capturing action shots of wildlife.

Grand Hotel Shoot

This shoot was part of my series of images that I had taken in the Canary Islands. The Grand Hotel in Arreciffe is a luxury hotel which is the tallest building in Lanzarote at 17 floors high. The hotel has a skybar and a restaurant with stunning panoramic views. This is typical of the hospitality venues that I hope to photograph commercially. I was allowed to take photographs of the Sky bar and restaurant although I was asked to keep disruption to guests to a minimum.
